Chapter 15

The pen had been on lockdown for 2 weeks. Nasty paced in his cell back and forth like a caged lion. His heart was turning to ice as he dealt with two horrible blows. First, he heard that they were separating him and Soulja. The threat of retaliation for what happened to Mo Garrett was just too high. The staff didn’t feel like dealing with a bloodbath, so they transferred Soulja. It was easier to transfer him since he had life. His new home would be the infamous Louisiana prison, “Blood” Pollock USP. Nasty, on the other hand, would stay right where he was at the Baltimore “Supermax” USP. Nasty hadn’t been out of his cell; he had barely eaten and was living off of pure adrenaline. All he could think about was getting to Shorty 55. The warrior in him had been awakened, and somebody was going to pay a very hefty price.

He constantly thought about it. The smell of the smoke that day when Mo Garrett had been killed and him wondering what clown was causing a ruckus . . . He and Soulja were kicking it, doing nothing, while their man was totally vulnerable. He tried to tell himself it wasn’t his fault, but he didn’t believe that. When Mo Garrett asked to handle the situation, he could have stopped him, but he let Mo get involved. It wasn’t Mo’s beef. This was foul from every angle of foulness.

By the time the police went running to Mo’s cell, it was too late. He’d heard the worst possible news. Mo Garrett had been tied up and burned to death. Defenseless. Not only did they kill Mo like an animal, but they snatched the chain from his neck that had a small locket with his granddaughter’s picture inside. The young girl had leukemia and the necklace was precious to Mo. He was always kissing it after he finished his Islamic prayers. This was the ultimate violation. It took another day and a half before the lockdown was lifted, and Nasty was ready to set off World War III.

He badly wanted to talk with Soulja, but he was already gone, in the process of being transferred. Nasty went straight to the showers, and four of his men looked out while he washed. It had been days since he was able to properly clean himself. A sadness hung in the prison air like a low, thick fog. Everybody loved Mo Garrett, and even though he tried to front like he wasn’t involved, everybody also knew that Shorty 55 was the one who orchestrated the hit.

“Yo, Nasty, how you plan on breaking even with them cats?” Rocky asked. “I feel guilty as fuck. But them niggas held a knife to my throat. There was nothing I could do.”

“Don’t blame yourself. Nobody expected Shorty 55 to get down like this,” Nasty said.

“So what’s the next move?” Rocky questioned.

“I’m not sure yet, but somebody’s blood gon’ pour like a waterfall—even if it has to be mine.
